PHILIP SHEPS Philip Sheps, aged 92, died January 14, 2001 at Seven Oaks Hospital, Winnipeg. Husband of Adele; father of David of Montreal and Arthur of Toronto; grandfather of Gideon of Hong Kong and Jonathan of Vancouver; great-grandfather of Azriel and Benjamin, both of Hong Kong and brother of Morley of Winnipeg. Born in Winnipeg and graduated in 1929 as a Chemical Engineer from McGill University. Founded Phillips Paint Products and was a Director of the Canadian Paint and Varnish Association. Over the years, he served as President of the Jewish Welfare Fund, a Founder and President of the Manitoba Jewish Foundation, Mid-West Regional Chairman and a National Vice-President of the Zionist Organization of Canada, Chairman of the United Israel Appeal and was also active in and held leadership positions both locally and nationally in various other Jewish community organizations, such as the Canadian Jewish Congress, the United Jewish Appeal and the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University. He was a Founding Member of the Glendale Golf and Country Club and served on the Boards of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the McGill Alumni Association, among his various activities in community organizations. Funeral at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, 561 Wellington Cres., Wednesday, January 17, 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be sent to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, C400 - 123 Doncaster, Winnipeg.
